FAIRFIELD BY MARRIOT,
HANOI, VIETNAM CLIENT: Marriot Hotel Group Jeff was the Contracted Associate Director (Landscape) and Lead Designer for the external areas concept design for the Fairfield by Marriot Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam. The key elements considered in the design process was incorporating the access route plus parking locations for the emergency services vehicles throughout the site and that the entire landscape is built over a podium with the final landscape levels being above the surrounding streetscape. A third component to be incorporated into the design was the desire by the client to have an open courtyard space associated with the "restaurant" zone of each building tower. The Hotel Tower (Building A) also required the design of two separate Balcony Gardens. A combination of raised planting beds filled with palms, tropical flowering small canopy trees plus an understorey of colourful shrubs and groundcovers along with water features has been used to define both pedestrian and vehicular movement throughout the central podium space while also providing a softening of the spaces between the buildings. Stepped planting beds have been used along the site perimeter boundaries to also define the site extent, plus also to assist with the screening of the basement facades.
